Removing cat urine smell is something that all cat owners need to know how to do. It’s embarrassing when someone comes over to your house and it smells like cat urine in your home huh? Most owners of cats know that the smell of cat urine is a force to be reckoned with. So knowing how to remove cat urine odor is one of the useful things you should know as a cat owner.

Homemade cleaner recipes and commercial products are available everywhere but which ones really remove cat urine odor? A homemade recipe might save some money over manufactured versions, so it’s best to know how to make one. The homemade recipes work very well if you use them right away. Commercial cat urine odor removers are stronger but are also more expensive. Deciding which one to use is something you’ll have to decide on.

The first step you need to do to remove cat urine with a homemade mixture is to soak up as much of the cat urine in that area as you can with paper towels. The cat urine soaked paper towels can just be thrown away. Keep soaking up more urine with the paper towels by stepping on the towels with your feet. Continue this step to remove cat urine from the area until you’ve soaked up as much of the urine as possible.

The next step to removing cat urine is to put a solution of baking soda mixed with water on the area. The solution neutralizes weaker odors but it also does some of the cleaning of the area. I also make a paste of the baking soda and water and then rub the paste into the carpet then rinse with water. If you don’t have a wet/dry vacuum to clean up this solution then use the paper towel method again. Friends of mine will sometimes use a commercial carpet cleaner after doing the baking soda method; this step is up to you.

If a commercial cat urine cleaner is more to your liking, there’s plenty to choose from on the market. Which one you use is a personal preference that you will have to decide. Some cleaners use a bacteria formula, while others use an enzyme to destroy the cat urine compound that causes the odor. There are other cleaners that use a hydrogen peroxide formula or chemical mixture and are pretty good for removing cat urine.

All of these cleaners are meant to neutralize the cat urine odors and clean the area. This is essential to permanently remove cat urine odor. The reason to do this is that just spraying an odor eliminator is only masking the problem. This method doesn’t get rid of the problem it only treats the symptom.

Knowing how to clean cat urine may not be the only solution. If your cat has an illness or other problem, this may be the reason they urinate outside of their litter box. If they do have an illness or other problem, you still shouldn’t allow them to urinate outside of the box. You are not making things any easier by doing that. If you are making sure they go in their litter box, then taking them to the vet will determine if there is a problem.

Being able to remove cat urine is something every cat owner needs to know. The cat urine smell is something that is just totally unpleasant and it can get out of hand. There are many methods for removing cat urine. It is a personal preference whether you use homemade or commercial cleaners. The main thing though is to make sure your cat is good and healthy in any case.
